Before: Challenges at Charlottetown’s Marinas

The marinas in downtown Charlottetown, PEI, serve as bustling hubs for both local and visiting boaters, but their existing infrastructure faced critical challenges. The wooden docks were deteriorating rapidly—metal components were rusting, while the wood was rotting and splintering, creating safety hazards for users. The docks struggled to accommodate diverse vessel sizes, and exposure to high winds, tidal shifts, and weather fluctuations further compromised their durability. Accessibility and safety concerns limited the marinas’ potential as premier destinations for boaters and tourists.

Designing the Solution: Crafting an Inclusive, Durable Walkway

To address these challenges, our team at East Coast Docks developed a custom marina solution that prioritized safety, durability, and versatility. The modular design allowed for flexible configurations to accommodate a variety of vessels, seamlessly blending into Charlottetown’s scenic waterfront. This innovative approach ensured a safe, low-maintenance dock system that enhances the marina experience for boaters while standing resilient against the harsh coastal environment.

PROJECT GOALS

Safety & Accessibility

We designed stable, ADA-compliant walkways to ensure safe and easy access throughout Charlottetown’s busy marinas. These docks provide a secure, user-friendly experience for boaters of all ages and abilities, enhancing convenience and peace of mind.

Low-Maintenance & Durability

Built with marine-grade aluminum and composite decking, our docks resist rust, splintering, and wear from harsh coastal conditions. This durable design ensures the marina remains functional and visually appealing with minimal maintenance requirements over time.

Versatility & Customization

With a modular design, our docks adapt seamlessly to accommodate a range of vessel sizes and marina layouts. This flexibility allows for easy reconfiguration to meet seasonal demands and the needs of a diverse boating community.

Installation: Seamless Launch for Minimal Impact

The installation process focused on efficiency and minimizing disruption to marina operations:

Launch from Boat Slips: The dock sections were launched directly from the boat slips, reducing the need for heavy machinery and keeping disturbance to a minimum.

On-Site Assembly: Crews assembled the docks at the marinas, ensuring quick, efficient installation while maintaining the integrity of the surrounding environment.

Precision Anchoring: Advanced anchoring systems were used to secure the docks, ensuring their stability in fluctuating tides and harsh weather conditions.

Impact: Strengthening Charlottetown’s Maritime Appeal

The upgraded marinas have transformed Charlottetown’s waterfront into a top-tier destination for boaters, tourists, and the local community. By blending modern engineering with aesthetic and environmental stewardship, the project has reinforced Charlottetown’s reputation as a vibrant maritime hub while ensuring sustainable growth for years to come.
